Default Twins or Triplets on Clomid?

My husband & I met w/ my obgyn today, and he is starting me on Clomid. He mentioned the increased possiblity of twins (7%) and triplets (2-3%). While I'm over the moon @ the thought of twins, my husband's a little freaked out. We have been trying to conceive for over a year and are both in our mid 30's. So, I guess my question is... who out there has twins or triplets as the result of taking Clomid?

As you see the odds of having twins off of clomid is pretty unlikely but of course is always a possibility to consider. I am one who requires clomid in order to get pregnant. I like your husband am scared to death of the possibillity of having twins but I want a baby bad enough that I am willing to take 7% chance risk.

As far as twins running in the family...that is a myth. Twins dont skip generations like they used to say..its been proven to be false and not a reason for having twins. So if you have twins in your family dont let that scare you.

There is no evidence that identical twins run in families. Fraternal twins, produced when the mother's ovaries release more than one egg per cycle, do run in families. A woman can inherit the twin gene directly from her mother, or from her paternal grandmother through her father. This is why many people believe that twins sometimes "skip a generation."

Having twins in the family does not make a man more likely to father twins himself, as his genes have absolutely no influence on whether his wife's ovaries will release multiple eggs. However, a man with fraternal twins in his family can pass the twin gene on to his daughter, increasing her likelihood of releasing multiple eggs and conceiving fraternal twins.

we have twins that resulted from clomid used in conjunction with IUI. Obviously, IUI makes it more likely since sperm is delivered to the egg, but even without it multiples are a ral possibility. My motto is I'll love 2 (or 3) the same as 1 as bring on the babies! Don't let the idea of multiples freak you out- I won't lie, they aren't easy & it takes alot of organization but it's a wonderful experience & very worth it. Woohoo for clomid!

Thought I'd chime in on the twin studies- there is some ineresting research that suggests that identical twins could have a male factor involved. No one knows why identical twins result but it's being researched. The only definate link established so far with identical twins is that identical twins are more likely to have identical twins & that women who undergo IVF have a higher incidence of identical twins. What always blows my mind is the women you hear about that do IUI and end up with triplets- 2 identical & 1 fraternal. I have heard from several of these women on a couple of the multiples boards I am on. All I can say is WOW!

My maternal grandpa is an identical twin and him and his twin are still alive at 81 . My maternal grandma(his wife) was a twin but the twin died before it was born leaving just my grandma. There arent any other twins in my family or my dhs that i am aware of.

My niece's egg donor (real mother) had 2 sets of twins back to back. The first set she lost one in-utero and then she delivered twin boys 11 months after the other boy was born.

Twins would be fun! I'm secretly hoping for twins with my follistim and IUI next month.

wow haley you are so young to have twins and going for a third, you go girl. no doubt you will always love your babies no matter how many God gives you, but iam like the pp the thought scares me, because i had one clomid/iui cycle, and started with twins, but only ended up with one baby, so i honestly think the percentages they give with clomid are LOWER then reality, esp. with IUI.

i think the odds are more then 7%, probobly a bit more then 10%...i know so many who have had multiples. seeing a friend with triplets, scares the willies out of me, cause she was dying for a baby and is totally overwhelmed. one at a time for me...hopefully, but God doesn't give you more then you can handle.

my dh would totally go loco though lol. issy is such a crazy lady it would be soo hard!!

good luck, and i hope you get what you wish

    hugs, shely

about running in families i don't know. weird that my uncle (not my biological relative, his wife is), he is a identical twin, and then my nieces (their daughters) are identical as well, BUT the twist, the girls were adopted cause they had so much trouble concieving. i never knew this until like 3 years ago, i assumed they were theirs, but nope. i thought it was in the family but turns out it was not. tell me how cute would identicals be? i always wish i had one myself.

i got another aunt who was never able to have any children (this is all new news to me), and just moved onto a farm and took care of about 30 animals, horses, cows, etc. infertility seems to run in my family. ughhh. lucky me!

My twins are a result of my second round of Clomid. Started 100mg on CD 2. I hope the clomid works for you and you get what you want! Twins are such a blessing!!!!

If you have identical twins in your family, then twins DONT run in your family. You just have a couple of flukes. If you have fraternal twins in your family, then the females are more prone to ovulate from both sides. My thought on the whole thing is if you need to go the fertility drug route, then getting twins is a double blessing. They shouldnt be seen as a negative outcome.

    Default Clomid

Hey, I had my first son with help from Clomid. Did 3 rounds with no pregnancy and then took a break. Lost weight and then took 150mg and got my boy

My friends have clomid IUI twins. She litteraly had to take 500mg of clomid to get any eggs at all, and she took a really really large dose of metaformin (sp?) shes got such horrible ovaries due to a hormone disorder (which I really dont know what it is).

I broke down asked about what she took to get pg (now I'll be quized every 4 weeks on if I'm pg yet sigh), because with my LP last month I have a feeling i'm heading towards clomid. Yuck. I was literally stunned they could even give you clomid that much, since most start at 25 or 50mg

Most people won't go over 150 mg. Maybe the 500 mg was the combined 5 days at 100 mg each day. 500 would be wayyyyyyyyy too much for anyone and they would most likely try something else if Clomid wasn't working at the safe dose.
